Moments of Our Days

January was fairly uneventful. We chugged along through the school work and snow storms that came only occasionally.

I'd asked Joseph to help me move the shelf down in the kids' closet. The bar was too high for them to nicely hang their items and the shelf too high to stack their toys. The new setup is much more effective for the kids to keep their things orderly!

I started my anniversary inspired quilt at the end of January 2022. It took it's last stitch on December 31st around 11pm! I start to finished the quilt in one year, and in under 12 months!

The snow is piling up a bit. Blake now has to climb to get the mail! It didn't take too long before the postal man decided it was too much effort for him to deliver and put us on a "snow hold". Now all our mail has to be picked up at the post office, until the snow melts!

One Saturday morning, we had a bunch of people driving down our road. The slush was significant and a few people ended up stuck in the ditch. After a while, I set the kids up in the yard to give scores for the next few drivers coming down the road! High scores for driving slowly and maintaining control well. Low scores for driving too fast or losing a bit of control and needing to correct. A zero score was if they ended up in the ditch!

Work on our kitchen begun! We had to pull out some moldy drywall and moldy insulation. We shifted some cabinets around, cut down the countertops, and made the hole for the door that will be installed by the laundry door. It was quite the mess, but now with the kitchen open to studs and tyvek, I have all the light I could ever need in my kitchen! A few more months and we'll get to replacing the bottom and top moldy boards and then we can start changing the insulation, drywall, and install siding!

Blaire had been asking to "make a pie with holes in it." So one day we peeled apples and and started our pie. She was quite pleased with the lattice. Gluten and dairy free pie crust is quite difficult to work with, so I was surprised at how good the pies turned out! Of course, they tasted wonderful, especially paired with dairy free vanilla icecream!

Our homeschool group meets on Wednesdays. The last meeting in January was a joint "field trip" to hear a dog sledder talk about racing with his teams. The public school next door to the church we gather at joined for the talk. It was neat to see a real sled and hear some stories!
